Guest Biography
Captain Trey Wirth currently oversees the Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. He leads a team that administers, develops, and maintains the Coast Guard’s marine environmental response program and provides guidance to operational field units. Previously, he was the Deputy Commander at Sector North Carolina, where he served as the Alternate Captain of the Port, Officer-in-Charge Marine Inspection, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, and Federal On-Scene Coordinator for the state. Captain Wirth has served in the Coast Guard for 24 years, spending the majority of his career in high opstempo All-Hazard incident management and crisis management roles. His major operational responses include: September 11th, multiple hurricanes, the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, a train derailment, and helicopter crashes. Trey began his career after receiving his commission from Officer Candidate School in February 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Quality Systems Management. Captain Wirth’s military awards include the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, and two Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbons. He is a native of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania and has three children, Austie, Colbie, and Crosby. |
