Trey Wirth (he/him) is a 22-year career Captain in the United States Coast Guard and currently oversees the Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Trey has spent the majority of his career in high operational tempo All-Hazard incident management and crisis management roles and has responded to major disasters to include: September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, Baltimore Tunnel Fire of 2001, BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, Super Storm SANDY, Paulsboro, NJ Train Derailment, two DoD helicopter crashes in Honolulu, HI, and Hurricanes ISABEL, MARIA, FLORENCE, and DORIAN.
Trey is an extremely passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion and served under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the transgender ban for 13 years of his career. He has always been a part of LGBTQ+ community, but recently came out publicly as transgender in 2021. He is currently the highest ranking out transgender member in the U.S. Coast Guard and is using his voice to educate and inform leadership of LGBTQ+ service.
Trey is a Chapter Leader for SPARTA, a non-profit that advocates and educates for transgender military service. He is also the Executive Champion for CG Spectrum, a Coast Guard affinity group designed to advocate for LGBTQ+ issues within the service and work with leadership to educate and inform policy.
